Plenty on here living up to the TV pundits view of mug supporters. Shameful

Most people on here have seen Jarvis and Maiga enough times over the last couple of years so they have had more than enough time to make a proper judgement and I think they'd probably share griffin's opinion.

I think both of them should be bombed out to be fair. One of the more negative aspects of Downing being sold is that we'll hang on to Jarvis for a bit longer.

Re: West Ham v Birkirkara - Official Match Thread FT 1-0
I was there too. Really didn't think it was the doom and gloom or as awful as some are saying.

They were a very well disciplined, resolute defensive unit. Crowding the box, and with our 4th choice striker we've been trying to get shot of for 2 years, a winger who barely played in the team last year, another who played mostly as a sub, and a former in-the-box second striker (Nolan) trying to play as a deep lying midfielder, it's no great surprise we struggled to break them down (or that the only guy who looked like he might was Zarate).

But those moaning need to open their eyes. The first 30 mins was passed the ball, kept possession, didn't launch it from deep, looked to do the right things, pressed hard and played in a way that was encouraging.

It wasn't THAT poor. There were good things. We didn't give them a kick in the first 5 mins...literally not a single touch of the ball. We shifted the paly around, probing with possession football.

Some seem to think two weeks of training in Cork, with the new manager there for about 5 days, and a split camp should have turned into the footballing equivalent of the Harlem Globetrotters overnight.

But I'd say this...if Allardyce had been in charg last night with that team we'd have finished nil nil, with far fewer shots on goal, and much less possession.

Some of our fans need a reality check on what stage of the season we're in, what is trying to be achieved, the players on the pitch's limitations, the tactics they've had drilled into them for the last 4 years, and the fact the opposition came to do to us what we did to Chelsea in that game of 19th Century football.

It's depressing...not the game, not the result, but the attitude and lack of insight and understanding some of these fans are displaying.

Honestly... If you want instant success, there are teams you can support that are far more likely to satisfy you. Things are on the up for West Ham...it may be a bumpy ride, but we have our club back on the right path.

Re: West Ham v Birkirkara - Official Match Thread FT 1-0

I base on my opinions on personal experiences. Having seen Jarvis against Maltese and Andorran opposition, and Maiga against the former; my experience is that neither player would have looked out of place playing for the opposition.

An opinion shared, I would imagine, by anyone that's seen both games.

Hate to say it, but BFS does have a point when talking about strength in depth. Weve made some good signings and no doubt will (and have to) make a few more. But if it comes to relying on some of this lot then we'll struggle. No one wants to see anyone do badly, but there are only so many chances you can give players and these games should be their opportunity to show they can still cut it. Especially with extra competition for their places.

Come on mate. You said "a team" and "legion" and then mention three players (about which I partially agree,) and you weren't exaggerating?

Players find their level, if Jarvis or even Maiga were Andorran quality they would be at that level. Bit of an exaggeration right?

Re: West Ham v Birkirkara - Official Match Thread FT 1-0
I don't see anyone knee jerking.

The players that are being criticised have been poor performers for a period of years, not months or weeks.

The positive vibes around Bilic's appointment are fantastic, but there's absolutely no harm in them being tempered with a little bit of realism about some of the dross he has to work with, and might struggle to get off the books.

Stewie - I think ioc is basically saying that he thinks it's primarily Allardyce's fault that we won 3 from 20 to finsih the season, and I for one would agree with him. But yes, these players need to go though of course.

Everybody can stop pissing their pants...we all know that quite a few of the players who played last night are the ones who won't be here for too much longer...

Re: West Ham v Birkirkara - Official Match Thread FT 1-0
I wish we look at the present (or at least the very recent past ) and future rather than back all the time.

Bilic was not happy with the performance and went on at great length about some of reasons for that. Let's take those at face value and remember its one game in a preseason time slot with a weird training set up.

Why we either have to knee jerk already or try to blame everything on the past I don't know. We got what we needed and it was far from our best lineup and they were far from being ready.

We need to improve but that is what training and transfers and managing is for. Let not abandon the good will already, I think it can be very important. One reason why any booing was disappointing.

I see it differently then.
The match was obviously bad, what to expect form BFS deadwood?
Still, we denied them a goal and limited them to 1 shot on goal. Still, we managed to score by two of our best players out there.

BFS cunt of a lover!

I don't need to exaggerate anything.

The likes of Jarvis and Maiga have been atrocious since they arrived, and Nolan has contributed nothing for more than a year. They've all been given an opportunity by the new manager, and have shown that they are simply not very good footballers. Fin.

You're saying it couldn't have been that bad just because of that one stat you've read. As someone who was there, Im telling you it was that bad, regardless of how many off target shots or easy saves for their keeper we produced.

It's got nothing to do whether I was there or not.

I've never said the match was good.

The state of our club is superb

Well, if there was any kind of thought we'd breeze into the group stages with putting out experimental/reserve sides, hopefully that's been put to rest.

I think it's time for the bigger names to step in for the next round. That should help immensely. Only worry is if Valencia isn't available that we'll have to go with what we've got up front at the moment in the first game of the next round. *shudders*

Not saying you are being negative but i saw plenty here and on twitter last night, i sure as hell hope Slav would be disappointed and now he has seen a few of these aren't good enough he will deal with it. We will go through I'm sure and move on, this is where we are at at the mo and people need to show patience.
